How Mariner App LLC handles information across our apps and website — in plain language, with the technical detail where it matters.

Last updated July 30, 2026

Summary

Mariner App LLC builds apps that work without collecting more than they need. We do not sell your personal information, we do not run advertising networks in our apps, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.

This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to our websites and to the Mariner Mesh and Vessel IQ mobile applications.

Information you provide

We collect information you choose to give us, which may include:

  • Account details such as a display name or handle, and an email address if you create an account.
  • Support correspondence — the contents of emails or forms you send us, so we can help you.
  • Content you enter into Vessel IQ, such as vessel listings, home port and usage assumptions used to generate a report.
  • Payment status. Subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google; we receive confirmation of an active subscription, never your card details.

Information collected automatically

To keep the apps working and improve them, we may collect:

  • Basic device and app information such as operating system version, app version and device model.
  • Crash reports and diagnostic logs, which help us fix defects.
  • Aggregate usage metrics — which features are used and how often — in a form that is not tied to your identity.
  • Standard web server logs on our website, including IP address and user agent, retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.

Message content and encryption

Mariner Mesh messages, photos and voice transmissions are end-to-end encrypted. Encryption keys are generated on your device and are never transmitted to us, escrowed with us, or recoverable by us.

When your devices are off-grid, message traffic travels directly between devices in your group and does not pass through our servers at all. Traffic that is relayed through other group members passes as ciphertext that those devices cannot read, and is not retained after delivery.

Because we do not hold your keys, we cannot read your messages and cannot produce their contents in response to a request from anyone, including law enforcement.

Location information

Mariner Mesh uses your device location to place contacts on the radar view and to route traffic across the mesh. Location is shared only with the groups you join, and only while you have that sharing enabled. You can disable location sharing at any time in the app or in your device settings.

We do not store your location history on our servers and we do not use location data for advertising.

How we use information

  • To operate, maintain and improve our apps and website.
  • To provide customer support and respond to your questions.
  • To generate the reports and estimates you request in Vessel IQ.
  • To detect, investigate and prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents.
  • To comply with legal obligations that apply to us.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your personal information.
  • We do not share your information with data brokers.
  • We do not use your content to target advertising.
  • We do not pass your interest in a boat listing to sellers, brokers or dealers.

Service providers

We use a small number of vendors to host our website, deliver email, process app subscriptions and collect crash reports. These providers may process limited information on our behalf, are bound by contract to protect it, and may not use it for their own purposes.

Data retention

We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Support correspondence is retained for up to 24 months. Diagnostic and crash data is retained for up to 12 months. Vessel IQ reports remain in your account until you delete them or close your account.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You may also have the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@marinerapp.com. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

Children's privacy

Our apps are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

International transfers

We are based in the United States and process information there. If you access our apps from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

Security

We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encryption in transit, encryption at rest for stored data, and access controls limiting who on our team can reach production systems. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our products change. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use our apps after an update means you accept the revised policy.
